Applicant should have the following documents ready in a PDF file to upload, using the naming convention: lastname.firstname.document (ex.Smith.Jane.OTMprofile), before starting your application.

  • A cover letter that describes your faith journey and how it has led you to believe that you are called to be the Tenth Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. (The cover letter should be no longer than 2 pages typed in 12 point font and double spaced.)
  • Current resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Updated OTM profile
  • A list of all bishops under whom you have served, dates of service, and with current contact information for each bishop
  • A letter of recommendation from each of the following sources:
    • A clergy person
    • A lay person (not a relative or family member)
    • A friend or colleague not connected with The Episcopal Church
  • Essay Questions: We ask you to prayerfully reflect upon these questions.  Please answer each question and limit each of your responses to a maximum of 500 words per question. Each question should be saved as a separate document                  (ex. Smith.Jane.Essay1)
  1. Leadership:  How do you see your role as Bishop in providing leadership, guidance and oversight to each of the following: Staff; Clergy; and Congregations which are diverse in size, location, culture, and ministry (e.g., full or part-time clergy, shared/team ministry).
  2. Vision:  Based on your reading of our ECMN profile, what excites you most about leading ECMN and which of your spiritual gifts, talents and passions do you see as most relevant to the opportunities and challenges facing us?
  3. Faith Practices:  Describe the practices in which you engage in order to be a follower of Jesus.  Why are these practices important and how would you encourage and support others to engage as followers of Jesus?
  4. Problem-Solving:  Please give us an example of a problem you have faced in your ministry and describe the approach you took to come to a resolution.  How would this experience inform your problem solving as a Bishop?
